The RD-U6040 is a rear derailleur from Shimano's CUES group built for 2x11-speed drop-bar drivetrains. It takes the SHADOW RD form, sitting close to the frame so it stays clear of the chainstay over rough ground. It is more compact than the wider flat-bar CUES derailleurs, which suits road, all-road and gravel builds.
Most CUES parts interchange across 9, 10 and 11-speed, but Shimano treats this one as an exception. It is 11-speed only, and is specified with ST-U6030 dual control levers and the 11-36T CS-RS400-11 cassette. Capacity runs to 41T with up to a 16T difference between chainrings, and it takes a LINKGLIDE or HG 11-speed chain.
