Pinarello started in 1952, when Giovanni Pinarello used the buyout from his pro racing contract to open a bike shop in Treviso, Italy. He'd spent seven years racing professionally, including a last-place finish at the 1951 Giro d'Italia, then put that experience into building frames instead of riding them.

The brand has been tied to some of cycling's biggest wins ever since: Miguel Induráin's five Tour de France titles in the 1990s, the Team Sky and INEOS Grenadiers era that added seven more, and a current partnership with INEOS that now covers road, gravel, and time trial. Pinarello is still based in Treviso, still building around Giovanni's original idea: bikes built to win races.
