SHIM'S RIDE

JULY 04, 2026

A full day of criterium racing, kids course, running event, food trucks, beer garden, raffles, music, and community — all in support of spinal cord research. Shim's Grand Prix takes place in the heart of Vancouver, Canada.

WHERE

Jonathan Rogers Park, West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC

WHEN

JULY 04, 2026 @ 11:00AM - 8:00PM

WHAT

A bicycle race in support of spinal cord research

Race. Watch. Both. The choice is yours.

DETAILS

In August 2019, Mathew "Shim" Szymanowski was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike, suffering a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

On July 25th, 2020, Shim's friends rode 520km from Port Hardy to Victoria to launch Shim's Ride — a fundraiser to support Shim's recovery and raise awareness for spinal cord injury in B.C

In 2024, the ride evolved into Shim's Grand Prix race, and we're once again partnering with Vancouver cycling team Red Kilo Racing to raise funds for the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute.

SUPPORT THE CAUSE

Since the inception of Shim's Ride, the community has rallied together, raising $85,000 for Shim's treatment. An additional $218,000 has been raised for spinal cord injury research and rehabilitation. Racing supports the cause, and so does donating. You can further support Shim’s Ride by donating directly at the CanadaHelps page.
